June 2026 Volunteers of the Month

Kevin Bachman
Partner
IQubed Advisors, LLC.
My role at PBSA:
BSCC (Background Screening Credentialing Council) Member.
Why I wanted to volunteer with PBSA:
I volunteer because I believe strongly in giving back to an industry that has given me so much throughout my career. PBSA has provided an incredible community of professionals, and I enjoy contributing in ways that help strengthen and advance our industry for everyone.
What I do when not at work:
I feel like I’m a part-time screening advisor, full-time travel baseball coach.
What I'm reading:
I often re-read books by Scott Galloway and Michael Lewis. Selling the Wheel by Jeff Cox and Howard Stevens is my favorite business book. Right now, I'm reading 1929 by Andrew Ross Sorkin.
Favorite website, podcast, blogs, etc.:
longreads.com, theathletic.com, theatlantic.com, and about 10 different Yankees and Syracuse Orange blogs.
On my desk right now (books, personal items, etc.):
My son and I got to play on the field at Yankee Stadium a few weeks ago, so I have dirt and grass from the field in little Ziploc bags scattered everywhere.

Associate General Counsel

My role at PBSA:
I serve as Chair of the Background Screening Credentialing Council and remain closely involved in PBSA’s advocacy efforts. I focus on bringing structure and clarity to accreditation and policy discussions, and I’ve recently spent a good amount of time engaging with emerging AI-related legislation that is beginning to shape the future of our industry.
Why I wanted to volunteer with PBSA:
Before joining a CRA, I worked in the General Counsel’s office of a financial services company where I helped oversee a global background screening program. That experience introduced me to PBSA and the important role it plays in educating lawmakers and supporting responsible screening practices. When I moved into the industry, volunteering felt like a natural way to give back and contribute to that broader mission.
What I do when not at work:
I run every day and use it as a way to reset and think. I also swim when I can, and on weekends I enjoy getting out for a good hike. Most evenings end in the kitchen, cooking dinner with a record playing start to finish.
What I'm reading:
I recently stepped away from dystopian fiction and have been working through fast-paced crime thrillers that I can finish in a day or two. I’m currently reading You’ll Never Know by Caleb N. Stephens, along with Supercommunicators by Charles Duhigg for a nonfiction change of pace. My Kindle Unlimited subscription gets a lot of use.
Favorite website, podcast, blogs, etc.:
I still let the algorithm do most of the work. Apple News+ tends to serve up a mix of legal developments, running, travel, and the occasional cocktail article. I also spend a fair amount of time on LinkedIn, both to keep up with industry trends and to share compliance-related content.
On my desk right now (books, personal items, etc.):
I keep things fairly minimal. You’ll usually find my iPhone, a Moleskine weekly planner, and a Montblanc ballpoint pen that was a law school graduation gift. There’s often a sketch nearby of content ideas or legislation I’m tracking.

Chad Ascar
Director of Compliance Integration
DISA Global Solutions
My role at PBSA:
Utility player. Member of the Finance Committee, Background Screening Credentialing Council, and Leadership Development Committee.
Why I wanted to volunteer with PBSA:
To learn from the best and now I want to mentor the next leaders of PBSA.
What I do when not at work:
Travel as much as schedule and funds allow.
What I'm reading:
Emails containing discounts for onboard activities for our family cruise in July.
Favorite website, podcast, blogs, etc.:
I start my day looking at scores from the night before on ESPN.
On my desk right now (books, personal items, etc.):
Stacks of paper that need to be discarded, but I keep them just in case there is a note that I may need in the future.
